Cebu City police arrested the suspect in the murder of a 27-year-old woman found dead and naked in their home in Talisay City last Saturday evening.

The 35-year-old suspect identified as Alfonso Saballa, was caught in an abandoned hut in upland barangay Toong, Cebu City at 10 a.m.

Saballa allegedly killed his sister-in-law, Manilyn Saballa inside their house in Seguerra Compound in sitio Garden, Poblacion, Talisay.

The suspect admitted to the crime and said he used drugs before he killed her. Saballa said he and the victim had a previous misunderstanding and he tried to kill her twice.

The victim Manilyn Saballa was found naked under their house with a wound on her head that the suspect said was caused by a hammer he used to hit her.

A wire was also seen tied on her neck. The suspect was brought to the Cebu City Police Office earlier today.

“I entered her room and hit her with a hammer four times, then tied a wire around her neck and pushed her off the window. But her dress got removed so I covered her with a blanket. I was supposed to bury her but it was watery so I covered her with stones and then I fled,” Saballa said.

The suspect said he did not rape the victim. Saballa said he was supposed to set the house on fire but didn’t for fear that his family will be burned alive.

“It was because of my anger towards her since she knows my vices, it should not be her problem. She usually tells my mother about it, and she might tell me to get out of the house anytime,” Saballa said.

Before proceeding to barangay Toong, he first went to barangay Campo 4, a mountain barangay in Talisay, and set fire to some of the houses of his relatives out of anger.

Insp. Windell Abellana, Talisay City Police deputy chief, said the case is strong against the suspect since he admitted the crime. He said they are still waiting for the result of the autopsy to determine if the victim was raped before she was killed./Correspondent Apple Mae Ta-as
