Aquino leads groundbreaking rites for new airport terminal

President Benigno Aquino III led the groundbreaking ceremony of the Mactan Cebu International Airport (MCIA) New Passenger Terminal Building at 2pm, Monday.

President Aquino was greeted by Governor Hilario Davide III upon arrival at the MCIA. The ribbon was cut by President Aquino with Governor Davide III. Those who attended the ceremony were Cebu 1st District representative Gerald Anthony “Samsam” Gullas, Cebu 6th District Representative Luigi Quisumbing, Vice Governor Agnes Magpale, Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Paz Radaza, Mandue City Mayor Jonas Cortes, Mactan Cebu International Airport Authority (MCIAA),  GMR-Megawide Cebu Airport Corporation (GMR-MCAC) officials, Department of Transportation and Communication (DOTC) Under secretary  Jose Perpetuo Lotilla joins the activity.

The airport is the first airport public-private partnership project. The GMR-Megawide Cebu Airport Corporation is commissioned to build the new terminal that is set to increase the carrying capacity of the airport’s passenger terminal.

After President Aquino made a tour to MCIA, all of the attendees went to Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) lounge for the conference.

President Aquino gave his speech addressed to the local government officials, MCIAA, and to the GMR-MCAC officials and staffs.
