Annual hoop tourney for BPO companies to start July 5
Nineteen teams representing various business processing outsourcing (BPO) companies will battle for supremacy when the improved 11th City Sports Club-Cebu (CSC-C) E-League for Basketball kicks off on July 5 at the CSC-C Gym.
The new season will introduce a modified bracketing aimed at ensuring a more balanced competition, revealed tournament director Rey Fuentes in the league’s press launching last Monday at CSC-C.
The tournament, backed by Mesa, Winners’ Circle, Lamesa Grill, 1United and Epic Performance Fitness, will feature three new teams and 16 returning squads.
The league will now have two divisions—the Elite Classic and the Evo League.
Teams touted as the league’s top dogs will compete in the Elite Classic while the Evo League will have teams in developmental stage.
“Coming with the Evo League is a mechanism to prepare developing teams to go up,” said Fuentes.
Teams in the Elite Classic will be relegated to the Evo League if they fail to make the playoff for two straight seasons.
Leading the Elite Classic are the defending champions Teleperformance All-Stars (formerly Vipers), last year’s runner-up Convergys Blue Devils, Convergys Converters, SSI Warriors, Accenture Sharks, Lexmark Stallions, Wipro Tigers, Sykes Pioneers and Eperformax Reds.
The Evo League will have the Author Solutions Inc. Hardbacks, 1&1 Marauders, The Results Spartans, Contact Solutions El-Slazenger, Telstra-Teletech Boomerangs, Teletech Titans, Supportsave Dragons, 24/7 Cagers, Kyocera Frontiers and Calltek Trojans.
The tournament will adapt a single round robin format in the eliminations with the top seven advancing to the playoffs. The eighth and last playoff spot will be given to the lottery winner.
Champion in the Evo League could qualify to the Elite Classic playoffs by taking on the lottery winner in a knockout game.
