THE Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) local organizing committee is looking for volunteers to help out during the series of meetings that Cebu will host starting next month.
The committee is looking for volunteers aged 18 to 25, with good command of the English language, and pleasing personality, said Ethel Natera, Cebu provincial information officer, yesterday.
“Fresh graduates are preferred,” she told reporters yesterday.
The University of San Carlos (USC) committed to send 100 students as part of their practicum and the University of Cebu-Banilad Campus also committed to send volunteers.
Other schools that were tapped were the University of the Philippines (UP) Cebu, St. Theresa’s College (STC), and UC Main Campus.
Last Wednesday, around 40 airline management graduates of the Royal Christian College have expressed interest to volunteer.
Initially, organizers were looking to tap colleges and universities to provide at least 300 student-volunteers.
However, Natera said the committee realized that the students’ schedules will be a challenge once the meetings begin.
She said that volunteers will be required to work eight hours a day, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., throughout the APEC meeting dates.
Over 3,000 delegates are expected for the third Senior Officials’ Meeting and related sessions from Aug. 22 to Sept. 6.
Spread out from Sept. 7 to Oct. 14 are ministerial meetings on finance, structural reforms, transportation, and energy.
Natera said aspiring volunteers may visit the Provincial Information Office at the Capitol to submit their application and bio-data.
