Two children also hurt in Balamban accident

A 51-year-old man was killed while two children were injured last Saturday after the motorcycle they were riding on fell off a cliff in sitio Abante, barangay Hingatmoan, Balamban town in western Cebu.
Placido Ripdos together with his two nephews, John Paul Vasquez, 16, and Nemar Vasquez, 10, were on their way home from a visit to their relatives at a nearby barangay when the accident happened.
Ripdos was negotiating a road leading down the mountain on a motorcycle.
While maneuvering at a blind curve, he lost his brakes and fell off a cliff that was at least 15 meters high, said PO2 Donard Pitogo of the Balamban Police.
“The cliff was full of rocks and some pieces of cut wood. Ripdos had bruises on his chest. He might have been killed on the spot while the two kids were thrown from the motorcycle and sustained injuries and fractures,” said Pitogo.
The two kids were initially brought to Balamban District Hospital but were later referred to the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center.
Pitogo said the accident happened at around 5:30 p.m. but they learned about the accident two hours after it happened.
“Based on our investigation, the place was sparsely inhabited and few vehicles pass the area. So despite their injuries, the children had to walk for more than an hour to find a house and ask for help,” said Pitogo in Cebuano.
He said the children first checked on their uncle, but when they saw that he was not moving, they decided to walk some distance to get some help./with a report from Correspondent Rene F. Alima
