Cebuano triathletes to vie in SG event

By: Glendale G. Rosal July 20,2015 - 11:03 AM

Rising Cebuana junior triathlete Aaliyah Ricci Mataragnon will lead Cebu’s charge when they compete in the upcoming Singapore International Triathlon 2015 this Saturday in Singapore.

The 15-year-old Mataragnon will be competing in the 14-15 years old super sprint race that will be featuring a 300-meter swim, 7.5k bike and 1.8k run course.

This will be the second time this year she will be racing in the island city-state of Singapore.

She finished second place in the 13-15 years old division of the Meta Sprint Series Triathlon last April also in Singapore while her coach, John Philip Dueñas placed fifth in the 25-29 years old age group of that race.

Mataragnon’s father, Richie, said they are set to leave for Singapore this Thursday along with fellow Cebuano junior triathletes Ralph Eduard So and the Chiongbian brothers Yuan and Justin.

Aaliyah has trained for two months for this race according to Richie under the supervision of swimming coach Ronald Manlosa of University of San Carlos and Dueñas.

Among Mataragnon’s achievements this year include the topping of the maiden Cebu City Triathlon held last January.
