LPA west of Babuyan Islands is now Tropical Depression Emong

The low-pressure area (LPA) located west of Babuyan Islands has developed into Tropical Depression Emong, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) on Wednesday.

In its latest advisory, the Pagasa said Emong became a tropical depression at 8 a.m.

Emong is the fifth tropical cyclone in the country this 2025.

Emong: Signal no. 1 in 4 Luzon areas

‘Emong’ slightly intensifies, Signal No. 2 up in parts of Pangasinan

Tropical Storm (TS) “Emong” has slightly intensified while moving southwestward over the West Philippine Sea, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said.

In its 11 p.m. bulletin on Wednesday, the weather bureau said the center of Emong was located 235 kilometers west of Sinait, Ilocos Sur, and moving southwestward at 15 kph.

It has maximum sustained winds of 85 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 105 kph.

Emong intensifies, Signal No. 3 now up in 2 Luzon areas, says Pagasa

The state weather bureau has placed two areas in Luzon under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) No. 3.

This as Emong intensified and reached the “severe tropical storm” category on Thursday, said the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).

Emong now a typhoon

The state weather bureau reported on Thursday morning that Emong had intensified into a typhoon.

Emong had reached typhoon category at 8 a.m., packing maximum sustained winds of 120 kilometers per hour (kph) and gusts of up to 150 kph, said the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) in its latest advisory.

The typhoon was last located 220 kilometers west of Dagupan City, slowly moving south-southeastward.

Pagasa is also monitoring Tropical Storm Dante, which was last spotted 735 kilometers east-northeast of Itbayat, Batanes.
