Complaint vs Talisay vice mayor, councilors for reducing proposed budget

By: Melissa Q. Cabahug August 04,2015 - 01:06 AM

The Cebu Provincial Board (PB) will look into an administrative complaint filed by Talisay City Mayor Johnny de los Reyes against Vice Mayor Romeo Villarante and eight city councilors after they reduced his proposed P1-billion budget by half.

De los Reyes charged the officials with dereliction of duty, misconduct, and abuse of authority before the PB.

The complaint was filed  July 24, but it was only yesterday that it was officially endorsed to the board’s committee on complaints and investigation.

The mayor submitted a P1.081-billion annual budget earlier this year, but the council reduced it  to P539 million.

Last week, the mayor also filed a petition for mandamus in court, to compel the council to review the 2015 annual budget.

Vice Mayor Villarante said only the Office of the President has jurisdiction over them through the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG).
