Thout the demolition of houses at  Doña Pepang cemetery was well underway, the Cebu City Council still passed  a resolution asking Mayor Michael Rama to suspend it until a  relocation site for the settlers is found.

In yesterday’s council session, barangay Tejero Councilman Garry Lao said only three families were able to relocate to Barangay Lorega San Miguel.

Jolly Cabrerra, a resident of Doña Pepang cemetery, told the council  they dismantled their houses out of fear of the  City Hall’s Prevention, Restoration, Orderly, Beautification and Enhancement (PROBE) team that arrived in the site.

Dizon, who chairs the housing committee, said there were residents who told him that their housing materials were confiscated by  PROBE team as evidence against them. The families were supposed to be relocated to Barangay Lorega.

But  barangay officials there asked Rama that they had to prioritize first the fire victims in their area before they can accommodate the Tejero families.
