Because of the popularity of running in Cebu, Takbo.ph decided to bring to the Queen City of the South the Takbo.ph Runfest on Sept. 27 starting at the Plaza Independencia.
The running event used to be held exclusively in Manila for the past years, but organizers decided to make the race a nationwide series this year.
The first leg was held in Manila last July 12 while the second leg was hosted by Bacolod City just last Sunday. The Cebu leg serves as the last leg of the series.
Leadpack Race organizer and Takbo.ph founder Jinoe Gavan said it was his friends in Manila who suggested to bring the runfest to Cebu. Once he found out that running had a huge following in Cebu, he didn’t hesitate to hold one race here.
“I lived here in Cebu a few years back,” Gavan said. “But at that time, running was not that popular. So I was very surprised when I learned that Cebu has a big running community,” Gavan said. We’re very excited to stage the final leg here. We hope it will be successful because we are planning to stage it here annually,” he added.
Gavan launched the event together with race director Joel Juarez of Coco Running last Monday at Captain A’s Restaurant.
The race will offer distances of 21 kilometers, 10 kilometers and 5 kilometers. The route will pass through the Cebu South Coastal Road.
To make the running event memorable, Gavan said they will give finishers medals in all distances. Also, 21k finishers will receive specially designed finishers’ shirt.
Registration can be done at all Chris Spots outlets in Cebu. Registration is until Sept. 23.
