13 finalists pass audition for Mandaue’s ‘Glee for Gold’

Contenders serenaded their way into the audience’s hearts during the Glee for Gold auditions held at Lakwatsa Resto Lounge last Sept. 5.

The Mandaue Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI) organized  Glee for Gold to showcase the Cebuanos’ talents in singing and dancing. It is part of the three-month celebration of MCCI’s Mandaue Business Month 2015 and the Chamber’s 50th anniversary this year.

Chamber president Donato Busa urged the participants to “sing and perform not for yourself but for everyone,” pointing out that MCCI lauds game changers—people who initiate positive movement—in their fields. The event supports MCCI’s direction toward creating teams, building dreams, and fostering fellows and partners.

MCCI Board member Wilson Ng said a person who knows how to sing and dance has bigger potential to be successful.

“This is not just a choir contest. This is a glee competition,” he said.

The contest judges were figures in Cebu’s music industry – , John Paul Padillo, Sonny Alquizola, Roy Empleo and Niño Banares.

MCCI member companies, non-member companies, schools, organizations, and Mandaue City barangays auditioned in the Glee for Gold. In the end, 13 out of 16 teams passed the initial round.

They are the Sorority Salonga School of Rock, The Tuners, Sixfold, Y Troupers, Little Heralds of Christ Choir, Ecclectic Singers, Ensemble of Voices, C3 Core Singers Cebu, Cambaro Youth Band, Mandaue School for the Arts Youth Choir, UCLM Choir, Acapella Dolls, and STC High School Music Ministry.

These teams will compete on Oct. 1 at the Mandaue City Sports Complex where they will belt out six-minute songs.

A cash prize of P50,000 will be given to the grand winner, P30,000 for the first placer and P20,000 for the second placer.

All winners will also receive  a trophy. A  prize of P5,000 will be given to the non-winners.
