Some of the country’s top classic sports cars will take part in the second edition of the Tour de Cebu starting this Saturday (Oct. 3).
The three-day event, spearheaded by Cebu’s premier car club, Performance and Classic Enthusiasts (PACE),  is the country’s only 1,000-kilometer sports car rally inspired from the notable Mille Miglia event in Italy. The race’s route will cover both Cebu and Negros, highlighting different scenic spots with an expected participation of over 35 classic sports cars that were manufactured before 1972.
PACE president Ramon “Red” H. Durano VI said that as of press time, there are 27 who have already registered for the race, eight coming from Manila.
Unlike other auto races that are based on speed, Durano said this event follows a different format.
“The race is not about speed. It’s not about who arrives first. There is a specific duration set for every destination and the driver who arrives there at the closest time will win,” Durano said.
Flag-off is this Saturday at 7 a.m. in Phase 3 of the Cebu Business Park, at the back of Colegio dela Inmaculada Concepcion-Cebu.
From there, participants will drive to southern  Cebu before crossing to Dumaguete City. Day 2 brings participants to the cities of  Bayugan and Kabankalan, thence to Bacolod City, where they will rest for the night. The third and final day will take drivers from Bacolod City to San Carlos City, where they will cross back to Cebu via Toledo City. They will then drive back to Chateau de Busay in Cebu City for the awarding on Monday night.
Fellow PACE member Jay Aldeguer said the event is a great way to promote the countryside of Cebu and the rest of  the Visayas.
“Tourists now want to see more of what nature has to offer and they like to enjoy it also in style.  Tour de Cebu is one way to do that.”
