Alegre case is moving – police

THE investigation is “moving.”
Supt. Michael Anthony Bastes, chief of the Investigation and Detection Management Branch (IDMB) of the Mandaue City Police Office, assured the public that the police continues to investigate the Aug. 13 killing of lawyer Amelie Alegre.
Bastes spoke after Marieta Ocañada, the 67-year-old mother of the slain lawyer, sought the help of the Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP) Cebu City chapter to speed up the inquiry into her daughter’s murder because there have been no concrete results or updates told to her by police.
Friends of the slain lawyer are offering a cash reward for information leading to the arrest of her killers or the mastermind.
Bastes said that he respects the widow’s s dismay about the slow police investigation.
“Mo-quote ko sa gisulti ni (I would like to quote what) Atty. Boholst (had said), di sab ta kamahay sa police kay dagha’g gisubay nga (we cannot blame the police because they are following many angles) motive(s),” Bastes said.
Senior Supt. Mariano Natu-el Jr., acting Mandaue City police chief, earlier said they can solve the case with or without the reward offered by lawyer Alegre’s friends.
He said the public has to understand that the ambush was not easy to solve since the victim was a lawyer.
Natu-el said last week that police have identified the “possible” mastermind but refused to give details.
Alegre, 37, was shot dead by two motorcycle-riding assailants who fire at the BMW sedan she was driving on C. Ouano St. in Looc, Mandaue City.
