THE much awaited showdown between four time world champion Brian “Hawaiian Punch” Viloria and the reigning WBC World Light flyweight king and current best pound for pound boxer of the world, Roman “Chocolatito” Gonzales of Nicaragua will finally happen today at the famed Madison Square Garden in New York, USA.
This after, both decorated boxers passed the official weigh-in yesterday at the Madison Square Garden where both tipped the scales at identical 111.4lbs for their WBC Light Flyweight battle.
Gonzales is unbeaten with 43 wins and 22 knockouts.
Viloria meanwhile, has 36 wins, four losses with 37 knockouts and is the former WBA and WBO world flyweight champion. The Fil-Hawaiian was also the former IBF world flyweight champion.
In the card’s main event, reigning IBO,WBA world middle weight champion and interim WBC world middle weight king Gennady Golovkin and his foe, David Lemieux weighed in at 159.4lbs and 159.8lbs, respectively. Golovkin will defend all of the his three titles against Lemieux in their 12-round showdown.
According to reports from Philboxing.com, Viloria claimed that he had the best training camp ever.
“This is the best training camp I’ve ever had. I’ve never looked and felt better than I have for any of my other fights. So I’m really confident and really relaxed. I’m so ready for Saturday (Sunday in the Philippines),” said Viloria. “I’ll do whatever it takes to get the W. If I feel like boxing him will do the job, I’ll do that. If I like going at him toe-to-toe will get it done, I’ll do that. I’ll adjust in the ring and adjust in the fight when I see fit.”
The Viloria-Gonzales slugfest will be judged by Waleska Roldan, Don Ackerman and Tom Schreck. The third man in the ring will be Benjy Esteves Jr.
The Viloria-Gonzales showdown will have a delayed telecast today at 1 p.m. over TV5.
