Ernestineans join chess contest

AS part of the quarter’s culminating activities, the grades 3-6 pupils of Marie Ernestine School (MES) North Campus participated in the chess tournament organized and sponsored by Cebu Executives and Professionals Chess Association (Cepca) at Handuraw in barangay Lahug, Cebu City last Oct. 17.

The Ernestineans were led by their chess teacher Therese dela Torre.

c1020marieernestineAfter five rounds, Karlo Tio  was declared the champion. Kyle Dizon, Gayle Macan, Armando Ybañez and Elijah

Ybañez, took the second to fifth places, respectively. All participants went home with a consolation prize.

“The Ernestineans will continue to work harder on their craft and soon participate in regional, national and international chess tournaments in the future,” the school said in its press statement.

“The school believes in the holistic growth and development of each Ernestinean and with chess education, the skills in critical thinking, decision-making, creativity, analytical thinking and problem-solving will be developed,” it added.

This academic year, the MES North campus incorporated into its school curriculum chess education.
