THE mother of murdered Karen Kaye Montebon said she and Karen’s older sister saw Karen in their dreams smiling.
“Karen was just happy in our dreams, maybe, because she knew she was given justice,” Emilinda Montebon said yesterday in Cebuano as she thanked those who helped in getting the killer.
Karen, a University of San Carlos student, was murdered on Sept. 15 inside their home in Corinthian Subdivision in Lapu-Lapu City. She was 17.
The killer, identified as Ruben Fernandez, was later shot dead in Bohol.
Karen’s family is slowly trying to move on after her tragic death.
Karen’s father, James, often visits her grave at the Mactan Memorial Garden. His wife Emilinda visits twice to thrice a week.
“We cannot just be left in sorrow. We need to accept the truth that Karen is gone and that she’s already at the side of God,” James said in Cebuano.
Meanwhile, Senior Supt. Armando Radoc, task force chief of Karen’s case, said they were still waiting for the DNA results of the hair strands, skin, and dirt found in Karen’s nail.
Radoc said the results may show if there was another person involved in the killing.
