Transport group to hold rally Wednesday
THE militant transport group Pagkakaisa ng mga Samahan ng Tsuper at Opereytor Nationwide (Piston)–Cebu chapter will hold a rally on Wednesday, November 11, to protest the impending operation of the SM My Bus in Cebu and other transport issues.
The march starts in the morning at Mandaue City and ends at the regional Land Transportation Office (LTO-7) at 3 p.m.
“These (European-made buses) are obviously affecting us once these will ply out on the streets,” said Greg Perez, coordinator for Piston–Cebu.
Piston–Cebu held a rally outside the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB-7) during a public hearing on the operation of the SM My Bus units that will ply routes from the SM Seaside City at the South Road Properties (SRP) to Metro Cebu routes.
“What will happen to the displaced drivers? Not just for jeepney but for taxi, yellow taxi and bus units as well,” he said.
Perez said they are also objecting to the continued implementation of Joint Administrative Order (JAO) 2014-01 and local ordinances in the cities of Mandaue and Cebu that impose heavy sanctions on erring drivers. He said most of their drivers cover the routes of Lapu–Lapu City and Mandaue City.
