URBAN poor groups held a prayer rally yesterday at City Hall to urge  Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama to approve the ordinance imposing a moratorium on demolitions. in the city.

The groups were led by  the Kilusan para sa Pambansang Demokrasya-Cebu.

The  ordinance passed by the City Council  allows a one-year moratorium on demolition of  houses of informal settlers to give time for the city government  to look for relocation sites.

The moratorium, however, does not apply to demolitions ordered by the court.

Under the Local Government Code, the mayor has 10 days to veto an ordinance passed by the council. Rama received the ordinance last November 9.
