The Cebu Provincial Anti-Drug Abuse Commission (CPADAC) will celebrate drug abuse prevention and control week starting tomorrow until Nov. 21.

In line with the celebration, CPADAC will recognize top performing local government units (LGUs) that have chosen to adopt and implement the Capitol’s “Just Say No” program.

Provincial Board (PB) member Carmen Durano-Meca, CPADAC co-chair, said five awards with a corresponding cash prize will be given.

These include top-performing anti-drug abuse councils in the city, municipality, and barangay, and top-performing police stations in the city and municipality.

Meca, during a press conference at the Capitol on Thursday, said she hoped the cash prize will be used by the awardees to augment their anti-drug abuse activities.

The ceremony will be held at the Cebu Grand Convention center on Nov. 20 and will serve as the highlight of the weeklong celebration, said Meca.

Meca said they have evaluated the performance of 47 LGUs since the start of the “Just Say No” program.

Out of the component cities and municipalities that the CPADAC reached out to, only Toledo City was not convinced to adopt the program.

Nonetheless, CPADAC officials believe that the city government is still active in its campaign against drugs.

Meca said that their evaluation is based on how the LGU implemented their anti-drug programs including the legislative measures undertaken like family involvement and community drug supply reduction, among others.

The “Just Say No” Program, launched in 2014, is a comprehensive approach formulated by the CPADAC and Ramon Aboitiz Foundation Inc. (RAFI) that will bring together local government officials, law enforcement agencies, parents, schools, the youth, businesses and loca media to reduce or eradicate drug abuse in the province.

CPADAC Executive Director Joey Herrera said the theme for the celebration is “Let’s Develop Our Lives, Our Communities, Our Identities Without Drugs.”

Herrera said there will be a 5-kilometer color fun run tomorrow where everyone is invited to join.

The race route will be from the Capitol compound to JY Square Mall in barangay Lahug and then back.

Assembly time is 5:30 a.m. at the Capitol.

No registration is needed, Herrera said. Interested runners will only wear white shirts.
