RAFI to provide bancas to affected fishermen in northern Cebu

THE Ramon Aboitiz Foundation Inc. (RAFI) has responded to the call of the Cebu Provincial Board to provide pumpboats (motorized bancas) to the fishermen whose livelihood were affected by supertyphoon Yolanda.

RAFI is now finalizing the proposal to donate pumpboats to the affected fishermen from the coastal areas in northern Cebu.

The giving of boats is part of the third phase of RAFI’s relief efforts for the typhoon survivors.

“This is more of a livelihood assistance by helping them repair or get a new banca,” said Marge Gravador, head of RAFI’s integrated development unit.

At present, the foundation is assessing the needs of fishermen. “We still need to assess because most of the fishermen only lost their nets and other fishing gears,” Gravador said.

For more information, contact Marge Gravador at 418-7234 local 51.
