Woman files raps against doc for injury

A WOMAN filed a complaint yesterday against the doctor who reportedly cut her bladder in a caesarian operation at the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center (VSMMC) last November 6.

“After the incident, there was no single communication from the hospital. They did not even ask about my situation,” Jermelyn Bactismo said after filing the complaint with the Department of Health (DOH).

Two weeks after the operation, Bactismo said she can still feel pain when she uses a catheter to relieve herself.

Bactismo said she thought that she would give birth in a birthing center.

“I had to be referred to a hospital because the personnel there got concerned after my child defecated inside my womb,” she said.

A caesarean operation was conducted at 1 a.m. and ended four hours later.

“I was unable to sleep after I gave birth because they made me sign an agreement that the hospital had nothing to do with whatever happened. What I did was to beg for them to save my child,” she told reporters yesterday.

The 23-year-old mother said she was surprised when she was told by the staff that her bladder was cut during the operation.

Bactismo said she didn’t have enough time to worry about herself then.

Since then, she has had to buy medicines to ease the pain of her operation.

A native of Pitalo, San Fernando town in southern Cebu, Bactismo stopped working in a salon months before she gave birth.

Bactismo’s live-in partner works in a construction company.
