FIVE persons were arrested when police raided five illegal “swertres” outlets in a series of anti-gambling operations in Minglanilla town, southern Cebu last Wednesday afternoon.

The five lotto outlets were not authorized to operate by the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO). They were engaged in betting with  three-digit combinations whose results are based on PCSO’s swertres game.

Chief Insp. Franc Rudolf Oriol, chief of the Minglanilla Police Station, said the series of raids were conducted after legitimate lotto operators complained that their operation was affected by  unauthorized outlets. In an authorized lotto outlet, a three-digit combination is sold for P10 with a prize of P4,500.  The unauthorized outlets sold each number combination for P10,000 which offers a winning of P5,500.

The series of raids started at 2 p.m. The unauthorized outlets were found in barangays Pakigne, Tungkil, Tulay, Tungkop and Tunghaan.
