Woman dead in Tuburan house; councilman tagged as suspect
A 40-YEAR-OLD woman was found dead with multiple stab wounds in the comfort room of a rest house in Tuburan town, northwest Cebu.
Jenny Capanas was naked from the waist up when she was found around 2 p.m. last Monday.
Around 8 a.m. yesterday, a blooded barangay councilman tagged as a suspect in the killing was found in the bushes a few meters from the rest house.
SPO1 Alden Abay-Abay said Samuel Canillo, 50, was found sitting on the ground, leaning on a tree with a stab wound in the abdomen.
Massive blood loss apparently weakened Canillo. The barangay councilman was later brought to the hospital.
SPO1 Abay-Abay said they would get more information from Canillo once he recovers.
But Canillo whom police said was a friend of the victim is already considered a suspect in the killing, said SPO1 Abay-Abay.
SPO1 Abay-Abay said they suspected that Canillo tried to force himself on the woman who may have fought back by taking a knife and stabbing Canillo.
Police said it was possible that Canillo was able to grab the knife and stabbed the woman repeatedly.
After discovering the body, police scoured the area after receiving a report that a man was seen running to the bushes last Monday afternoon.
Capanas frequented the rest house since the girlfriend of the caretaker was her friend.
Police said charges are being readied against Canillo.
