Pacquiao 2nd top taxpayer in PH

Sarangani Rep.  and boxing champion Manny Pacquiao last year “lost” the crown he held in 2013 as the Filipino that paid the most taxes to the founder and owner of a homegrown biscuit manufacturer.

A list released by the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) yesterday showed that Republic Biscuit Corp.’s Jacinto L. Ng paid the highest amount of regular income taxes totaling P280.1 million in 2014, citing data as of November 10.

Pacquiao, who ranked first in the list of 2013 top individual taxpayers released last March, shelled out P210.3 million—a higher amount than the P163.8 million in regular income taxes he paid for taxable year 2013.

Ranking third was Vivian Que-Azcona, president of Mercury Drug, with P153.6 million in taxes. Palawan Gov. Jose “Pepito” Chavez Alvarez paid the fourth highest amount of taxes last year worth over P73 million.

Ng’s son, Jacinto Jr., was in fifth place with P66.9 million in taxes paid in 2014.

Presidential sister, TV host and actress Kristina Bernadette “Kris” Cojuangco Aquino paid the sixth highest amount, worth P54.5 million.

Telco executive Ronaldo Romero Soliman paid taxes amounting P53.5 million, while beverage executive William Schultz shelled out P51.3 million last year. San Miguel Corp. president Ramon See Ang was in ninth place, having paid P51.1 million in income tax in 2014.

Rounding out the top 10 was Lauro Castro Baja III of Swiss Bank UBS, whose regular income taxes reached P 50.7 million during the period.

Among the country’s most prominent businessmen, Danding Cojuangco was at 11th spot; Ayala Corp. top brass Jaime Augusto and Fernando Zobel De Ayala were at 23rd and 25th place, respectively; Alliance Global Group’s Andrew Tan ranked 36th; and Manuel V. Pangilinan was ranked 44th.

SM Group founder Henry Tan Sr. paid P25.7 million in taxes to rank 53rd, lower than the 49th place of Henry Jr., whose taxes in 2014 was P26.3 million.

The top celebrities who paid their taxes for 2014 according to records of the Bureau of Internal Revenue as of November 10, 2015 are: Manny Pacquiao (P210.3 million), Kris Aquino (P54.5M), Sharon Cuneta Pangilinan (P49.1M), John Lloyd Cruz (P37.7M), Anne Curtis (P31.4M), Vic Sotto (P27M), Piolo Pascual (P26.4M), Rodel Naciancino (P22M), Sarah Geronimo (P21.4M), Derek Ramsay (P20M), Marian Rivera (P19M), Charo Santos (P18.7M), Mike Enriquez (P18.5M), Phylbert Ranollo (P17.3M), Beethoven Bunagan (P16.7M), Judy Ann Santos Agoncillo (P15.9M), Vice Ganda (P15.7M), Kim Chiu (P12.7M), Toni Gonzaga (P12.6M), Robin Padilla (P12.5M), Boy Abunda (P12.4M), Noli De Castro (P11.7M), Ogie Alcasid (P10.9M), Richard Yap (P9.4M), Regine Velasquez (P9.3M), and Jessica Soho (P8.9M).
