Boholano bags third straight triathlon title after ruling men’s elite division of Tri Liloan

Boholano triathlete Paul Jumamil put up another strong performance in the men’s elite division after emerging champion in the Tri Liloan of the Sugbu Triathlon yesterday in Liloan, northern Cebu.

The 23-year-old Jumamil from Cortes, Bohol logged his third straight win in triathlon in just the last quarter of the year.

Jumamil finished the race that featured 1.5-kilometers swim, 40k bike and 10k run in two hours, four minutes and 56 seconds to emerge champion.

Joining him at the top of the podium was Cianyl Jamae Gonzales, who dominated the female elite division with a time of 2:53.13.

Aside from this race, Jumamil also lorded the 80/80 Triathlon last November in San Remegio, and topped the Filipino elite division of the Safeguard 5150 Triathlon in Panglao, Bohol in the same month.

Jory Ycong finished second in the men’s race with a time of 2:09.58 while another Boholano, Emmanuel Comendador, rounded off the top three, clocking 2:16.11.

Denis Abcede placed second in the distaff side, finishing in 3:16.34 while Lucille Ruiz completed the top three with a time of 3:34.18.

In the age group races, Reylan Lapiz topped the men’s 24 and under by crossing the finish line in 2:38.18 followed by Donray Noval (2:39.33) and Nikko Otadoy (2:48.38).

In the men’s 25-29 division, Jan Carlo Cañete finished on top with a time of 2:45.58 while Jundeb Andre Esquivel, a Cebuano biker who managed to conquer the 12th ABSA Cape Epic-The Untamed African Mountainbike last March, topped the men’s 30-34 years division in 2:51.31.

The country’s lone pro off-road triathlete Joseph Miller ruled the 35-39 years division with a time of 2:24.31 while Alejandro Suelo Diogenes topped the men’s 40-49 years old division, clocking 2:54.34. Brian Lim won the men’s 50 above race with a time of 3:12.35.

The relay contest was won by Three of Me, which finished in 2:05.19. Volvo Tri Team finished second (2:09.50) and Tri-Liloan third (2:14.41).
