A late afternoon fire broke in a thickly populated area in sitio Avocado, barangay Lahug in Cebu City today.

The fire which lasted for more than an hour and damaged a still undetermined number of structures was said to have been caused by a candle left unattended inside the house of Rosemarie Villarin.

Clyde Villarin, Rosemarie’s son, said the fire immediately spread to nearby structures mostly made of light materials.

The fire broke about 6:22 p.m. and was declared under control at 7:35 p.m.

City Fire Marshal Rogelio Bongabong said lack of access made it difficult for firefighters to immediately put out the flame.
