TABUELAN town’s pride Elmo “Bisdak” Traya capped 2015 in style, scoring a knockout victory in last Sunday “Bakbakan sa Tuburan” fight card at the Tuburan Sports Complex in Tuburan town, southwestern Cebu.

Traya of the famed ALA Boxing Gym improved his record to 10 wins with eight knockouts and a single loss after knocking out Gabriel “Peligroso” Royo of Manila in the first round of their 10-round non-title duel.

Traya connected on a solid straight to the head of Royo, who is ranked 12th in the lightweight division in the Philippines, in the one-minute mark of the first round.

Royo, who was actually knocked down earlier, suffered his 14th loss. He has 10 wins (8KOs) and two draws.

In the co-main event, Traya’s stablemate Jimmy “Popeye” Paypa walked away with a unanimous-decision victory against veteran Jason Egera in their 10-round showdown.

All three judges favored Paypa’s performance after Egera was left bruised and bloodied.

Paypa logged his 17th victory with six knockouts to go with three losses and one draw. Egera suffered his 15th loss against 21 wins and 16 knockouts.

It was Egera’s eighth straight loss in his diminishing career in boxing while Paypa bounced back from his loss against Japanese Shingo Wake last February for the OPBF super-bantamweight title.

Waminal who suffered his first loss to Carlo Demecillo last September in Balamban, west Cebu, secured his fourth win.

Salvador, on the other hand, dropped to his 25th loss. He only has five wins and three draws.

Tagbilaran, Bohol’s Ken Gentallan subdued Richard Sueno of Bacolod City with a majority decision victory.

Gentallan, whose record is now 3-0, 2 KOs, survived a brawl with the equally determined Sueno in their six-round bout.
