Center offers livelihood skills training to interested individuals

The fourth “I am Mandaue Shop” was opened last Saturday at Pacific Mall in barangay Ibabao-Estancia, Mandaue City.

The shop will give basic skills training to interested individuals who want to learn balloon making, flower arrangement and decorations, cookery, baking and pastry and gift wrapping, among others.

Evangeline Suico, trainor of the Mandaue City Technological and Entrepreneurial Skills Training Center (MCTEST), said the project is in line with the city’s vision to become the primary source of high quality consumer products by 2020.

Suico said they are offering around 20 skills trainings at the mall.

Enrollment starts January, while the training program will run until Jan. 19.

The MCTEST and the Mandaue City College (MCC) were both inspired to create the basic skills training project to achieve the city’s vision.

MCC administration officer Dr. Theresa Inot said certificates will be given to those who can complete the course.

Two  MCTEST students are now handling the basic training at the mall.

Garnet Marie Agravante of barangay Guizo who graduated two years ago from MCTEST already has her own balloon business aside from being an events coordinator, florist and pastry baker.

“Daghan na kaayo ko karon og mga order ug services. Daku gyud og tabang ang training (I now have a lot of orders and services. The training has helped me a lot),” Agravante said.

Susan Camus, another  graduate, has her own “all party needs” business.

The “I am Mandaue Shop” in Parkmall,  City Times Square and Insular Mall have been displaying Mandaue-made products, such as food delicacies, souvenirs, handicrafts, and furniture.

Mandaue City Councilor Diosdado Suico, who attended the opening of MCTEST and MCC at Pacific Mall, said Mandaue City is doing a lot to give Mandauehanons the opportunity to earn money, get jobs, establish their own business and contribute to making Mandaue a better home for them.
