Two college scholars supported by the Aboitiz Foundation ended 2015 with flying colors, having received academic honors for their strong commitment and passion to excel in their respective academic fields.
Adriel Gamier Sanchez, a Bachelor of Industrial Engineering graduate, summa cum laude from the University of San Jose-Recoletos, was hailed last year as one of the Ten Outstanding Students of the Philippines (TOSP) in a ceremony in Malacañang.
“We should not focus more on our achievements in life, but on our character, because recognitions may be forgotten, but the values and the principles that you stand for will surely remain in the hearts of the people,” said Sanchez.
Sanchez, together with his classmates, also won in the 1st Aboitiz corporate social responsibility proposal-making competition. They received a P200,000 grant which they will use to fund the Panlambo Bakeshop in barangay Cambinocot, Cebu City.
Another scholar, Armand Henzkel Canoy, is a summa cum laude graduate of the Cebu Institute of Technology-University. Canoy was recently cited for topping the November 2015 Civil Engineer licensure examination, besting 3,934 other exam passers across the country.
“We are proud of our Aboitiz scholars and their achievements because we truly believe in their capability to succeed.
Through them, we are further inspired to continue with our various education initiatives as we advance our efforts to help improve our country’s educational system,” said Sonny Carpio, Aboitiz Foundation executive vice president and chief operating officer.
The Aboitiz Group currently supports a total of 2,774 scholars nationwide, of which 330 are from Metro Manila and 1,554 in Cebu are being supported by the Aboitiz Foundation.
This year, 44 Aboitiz scholars graduated from college, 27 with Latin honors.
In the last 28 years, over 29,000 Filipino students have benefited from the Aboitiz Foundation’s scholarship and financial programs.
