Jun Tan named coach of Cebu-Landmasters

THE CEBU Landmasters-Bogo City have finally settled on who their head coach for the upcoming Countrywide Basketball League will be and opted to tap a familiar face in Jun Tan.

The decision was relayed to Cebu Daily News by Bogo City Mayor Celestino “Junie” Martinez. The affable basketball patron said that he and Tan met yesterday morning to hash out some details regarding his upcoming designation.

Martinez also said that the head coaching position was a toss-up between Tan and another veteran coach in Jun Noel.

But with the Landmasters pressed for time with the CWBL set to open in March, Martinez said that the man for the job eventually became Tan.

“Jun (Noel) still has an obligation to the University of San Jose-Recoletos and the process of clearing it up with his superiors would still take time. And time is something that is not on our side.

Some teams have already formed their teams and we haven’t even started,” said Martinez.

Martinez added that Tan asked for Hermes Sumalinog to be his assistant coach. Armand Colina, another promising local coach, is also in the mix to be added to Tan’s staff.

“I’m both excited and nervous because it’s been a while since I last coached a team,” Tan said.
