Complaints for frustrated murder were filed against two men who were tagged as suspects behind the slay try of a barangay captain in Lapu-Lapu City last Saturday.

Eric Saumay Empaso, a resident of Sitio Iba, Barangay Basak; and Moto Daligdig, a resident of Barangay Pajac, were charged before the Lapu-Lapu City Prosecutors’ Office yesterday afternoon.

In his affidavit-complaint, Basak Barangay Captain Isabelito Darnayla identified Empaso as the one who shot him while he was driving his Ford pickup on his way to the barangay hall.

Darnayla identified Daligdig as the one who drove the motorcycle used in the attack. Darnayla was wounded in the body.

The barangay captain was able to return fire, triggering a brief shootout. Darnayla said the attack might have something to do with his job as barangay captain. He said some people might be unhappy with his campaign to improve the barangay.

Police tried to locate the suspects in their residences, but they could not be located there. Police said no one came forward  to claim the tricycle, which was abandoned by the assailants after the exchange of gunfire.
