By: Jose Santino S. Bunachita March 05,2016 - 02:03 PM

More than 26,000 graduating students from the public schools in Cebu City will be benefiting from a graduation fees subsidy of the city government this year.

The Local School Board (LSB) is now preparing the P3.74 million to be used for the subsidy which is pegged at P150 per student, according to Councilor Alvin Dizon.

“This is in conjunction with Ordinance No. 2414 that the SP passed last December 2014. This is the second year of the implementation of the city ordinance which I authored,” said Dizon who also heads the city council’s committee on education.

Based on the ordinance, the subsidy will be given directly to the different public elementary and high schools in the city through the Department of Education (DepEd) Cebu City Schools Division.

Under the ordinance, the amount can be used by the respective schools for printing of graduate programs, certificates and diplomas, stage decorations, rental of sound system and chairs, stipends and food.

Cebu City Schools Division Superintendent Bianito Dagatan has already submitted the list of graduates for school year 2015-2016 to City Hall.

Based on their list, there will be 15,515 elementary graduates and 10,528 high school graduates for this year.

A budget of P3,744,955 will be needed for them.
