Butane explosion causes Talisay fire

By: Carmel Loise Matus March 21,2016 - 03:18 PM

Fire investigators initially said a butane explosion caused the fire earlier this morning at Sitio Pungsod, Brgy. Lawaan III in Talisay City.

Randy Mendaros, Talisay City Fire Marshal told Cebu Daily News that the butane explosion occurred at the house of a certain Fatima Colis.  The Talisay City Fire Department received the alarm at 10:15 a.m.

Mendaros said the narrow road leading to the fire scene prevented them from immediately putting out the fire.

Other factors that made it difficult for them was the hot weather due to the El Niño phenomenon and the water supply of their fire trucks.

Mendaros said they were fortunate that other neighboring towns and cities have responded to their call for help. Damages were pegged at P400,000.

Mendaros said they are still confirming if there was indeed a boy who was trapped in their house.

The fire was placed under control at 11:40 a.m. and put out at past noon. Fire victims will be staying temporarily at the covered gym of the barangay.
