Police are monitoring terminals and ports in Central Visayas due to the expected large turnout of passengers heading to the provinces for the Holy Week break.

Chief Supt. Manuel Gaerlan, regional director of the Police Regional Office Central Visayas (PRO-7) visited the terminals and piers in Cebu City Wednesday morning to inspect security preparations.

“As we can observe it (South Bus Terminal) has complete security with emergency medical teams ready to respond,” Gaerlan told reporters.

During his visit, a few passengers went early at the South Bus Terminal to take the trip home.

Gaerlan said the heightened security alert is in response to the recent bombings in Brussels,Belgium.

“We do not want to happen that in our region, in fact we are mobilizing all PNP personnel. We are jointly coordinating with the possible conduct of patrols. We do not want it to take it lightly, we assume that there is always a threat,” he said.

Gaerlan also urged the public to be vigilant and report any suspicious packages and persons to the police.
