No water terrorism in Moalboal, mayor insists
MOALBOAL Mayor Inocentes Cabaron denied allegations that his administration is involved in “water terrorism” in two barangays in the town.
The mayor’s response came amid a radio report in which a “concerned resident” who requested anonymity complained that water supply has been running low in Barangays Basdiot and Saavedra for three years now.
“Those two barangays are my bailiwicks. Why would I do anything to sabotage the water system there? Why would I do something that would make me lose in the coming elections?” he said.
The concerned resident from Moalboal town alleged that the spring supplying water to the two barangays can still produce enough, but the water pipes had already deteriorated.
“Water terrorism” is defined as the sabotage of a water system through chemical or biological warfare or infrastructure damage.
But Mayor Cabaron clarified that the source supplying water to the two barangays and Balabagon, Tumunoy, Poblacion East and Poblacion West, can no longer meet the needs of the residents.
Cabaron said the municipal government undertook a P4-million project in which water from another spring in Barangay Tumunoy located two kilometers away from the main source, will be used to augment the existing supply.
The mayor said he expects the project, which was funded by the provincial government, to be completed by next month.
