REPAIRS on the Mandaue-Mactan Bridge resumed yesterday but the settlers living under the structure continued staying in the area unmindful of the potential risk of falling debris.

Children are seen playing while their parents went about their usual routines.

Jegma Construction, the project contractor, brought out their heavy equipment to start repairs.

While some remained fearful, others were positive that there won’t be any accident that will happen during the course of the repairs  scheduled to be completed by August this year.

Liza Balane told Cebu Daily News that she is not disturbed by the fact that there is an ongoing repair on the bridge. Balane said she was born and raised there.

She said she and her neighbors were assured that safety measures are in place to protect them.

“Makita man sad nga ilang gisaan. Wala ra sad ko nabalaka. Ilaha man ming gi-assure sa among safety,” she said.
(We can see that they put nets above. So I don’t have to worry about it. They also assured us of our safety.)
