Motorists are advised to avoid L. Tudtud Street in Barangay Mabolo because of a cross drain project that is to be implemented in the area starting April 20.

Engineer Xyza Marie Sibi of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) said the cross drain project is tied to the road widening project at MJ Cuenco Avenue.

“Ilabang man ang drainage padulong sa outfall, kanang sa sapa (The drainage will be directed towards the outfall, at the river). It’s a national road project pero nagpatabang mi sa (but we asked help from the) Cebu City Transportation Office for the traffic,” she said.

CCTO said it will issue a traffic advisory on alternative routes tomorrow.

Sibi said they will try to finish the project in one week.

“That is if there is no traffic. But since that is unavoidable, then that’s why we are working on it slowly, portion by portion,” said Sibi in Cebuano.
Sibi said there’s no need to totally close the street since they start work at 9 p.m. and end on 4 a.m.

CCTO Executive Director Rey Gealon said they will provide 10 traffic personnel in the area to assist DPWH in their cross drain project.
But he said motorists should take alternative roads to avoid congestion.

“(Also) we urge the contractor to expedite the roadwork so as not to further hamper traffic operations.” Gealon said./Correspondent Nestle L. Semilla
