THE annual Kadaugan sa Mactan festival started last night with a three-day street party and two separate concerts.

Frank Brazil, chief of City Traffic Management System (CTMS), said no street will be closed for the Kadaugan Street Party except at the Hoops Dome area.

But vehicles would not be allowed beyond the junction of Punta Engaño and Maribago on Sunday, when the Battle of Mactan would be reenacted.

Vehicles would be directed towards the Angasil area instead.

The reenactment would be preceded by a Mass, flower offering and military honors (21-gun salute) by the Philippine Air Force.

Celebrities Ejay Falcon, Matt Evans and Bela Padilla will play the role of Lapu-Lapu, Magellan and Reyna Bulakna, respectively.

The Color Run will be held at 3 p.m. today starting at the Hoops Dome. Participants will proceed to S. Osmeña Street and Ceres in Barangay Gun-ob before going back to Hoops Dome.

“Sa Color Run, ang mga participants magpadaplin lang kay lisod na man pud og atong sirad-an ang dalan (For the Color Run, the participants would have to run along the road side because it would be inconvenient to close any road),” Brazil said.

Later tonight, the Reyna Bulakna pageant will be held as well as a summer party and “Katawa Sayaw” at Goldberry Parking lot.

A concert and disco will also be held at the City Hall grounds. Another concert by San Miguel Brewery will be held at the Mactan Shrine on Saturday, Sunday and Monday nights.

On Sunday evening, the Rampada street dancing and showdown, considered as the highlight of the Kadaugan Street Party, will be held at Hoops Dome.

Other activities like cosplay, higante parade and contest, light parade and car show are suspended for this year.

Damian Gomez, chairman of Lapu-Lapu City Tourism and Historical Affairs, hoped that despite the limited activities, people would still have fun.
