Traffic plans set for elections

THE Cebu City Transportation Office said yesterday that they are ready to implement their traffic plans for the May 9 elections.

CCTO operations chief Jonathan Tumulak said the entrances of schools to be used as voting precincts must be cleared of vehicles so voters can leave immediately in case of emergencies.

“No Parking” signs will be posted and violators will be fined and have their vehicles towed. Tumulak said schools along the national highway will be prioritized.

Tumulak said heavy traffic is expected on election day especially for roads with narrow sidewalks because there is less space to park and motorists may end up parking on a part of the road.

Tumulak said drop off areas will also be designated. “Diha ra gihapon sa eskwelahan, basta dili sa atubangan (Drop off areas will still be in the school, but not in front of it),” said Tumulak.

Tumulak said the CCTO will ask the Prevention, Restoration, Order, Beautification and Enhancement (Probe) team to help CCTO clear vendors from school entrances.

He said CCTO personnel were instructed to vote early so they can focus on their assignments. Tumulak said no roads will be closed on May 9.
