PBOC asked to lower transmission threshold for vote results

By: Victor Anthony V. Silva May 11,2016 - 01:12 PM

THE lawyer of Provincial Board (PB) candidate Jonkie Ouano asked the Provincial Board of Canvassers (PBOC) to lower the transmission threshold to 90 percent so leading bets for Cebu’s sixth district representatives can be proclaimed.

As of 11:30 am Wednesday, Liberal Party (LP) candidate Glenn Bercede leads the race for the PB sixth district seat with 95,502 followed by Ouano of One Cebu with 87,285 and Julius Alegado of LP with 62,672.

The PBOC won’t proclaim winners from the district unless they receive 100 percent of election returns in the province. Transmissionn was still at 96.9 percent in the province with data from Santander, Malabuyoc and Cordova towns still pending.

Ouano’s lawyer Gonzalo Malig-on Jr said the Comission on Elections (Comelec) resolution 10102 states that the BOC may lower the transmission threshold to not less than 90 percent as basis of proclaiming winners of a particular race.

Cordova which belongs to Cebu’s sixth district has 34,000 voters and once results from the town are transmitted to the PBOC, Malig-on said Ouano will still have a wide lead against Alegado.

Ouano is the son of the late Mandaue City mayor and PB member Thadeo Ouano.

The PBOC will convene at 2pm today to act on Malig-on’s request and the electoral protest of congressional candidate Paulus Canete against Mandaue City Mayor Jonas Cortes.
