Living up to its commitment to help discover and mold young talents, the newly formed Suzuki Football Club (SFC) will be conducting tryouts in various places in Cebu City.

The group’s grassroots development program is open for aspiring football players aged six to 12.

Composed of football players coming from various places in Cebu, SFC was formed last January. SFC is composed mostly of professionals. Some of the members are licensed football coach and football referees.

Right after it was formed, SFC immediately made its presence felt by winning several football tournaments and futsal tournaments such as the Thirsty Football Club, BRO nationals Football Festival, Tayud Futsal Cup and BMEG Futsal Cup.

Aside from competing in the major football tournaments here in Cebu, SFC, founded by veteran footballer and former Philippine youth team member

Ktec Alazas, is also aiming to train children especially the underprivileged ones.

“We want to develop the grassroots to the kids and make it available to those who are less fortunate and in need,” lawyer Julius Entise, president of SFC, said in a press briefing yesterday at Bayfront Hotel.

Alazas, sales and marketing officer of Suzuki Motors Philippines, said the group’s grassroots development program will start in the third quarter of the year.

Entise, who is also the legal counsel of the Central Visayas Football Association (CVFA), formerly known as Cebu Football Association (CFA), said the Looc National High School and Elementary School will be initial venues for SFC’s football clinic along with the Cebu City Central School, Barangay Pasil, Carreta and other mountain barangays in Cebu City.

“The long term goal of the team is to maintain and strengthen our grassroots program so that we can somehow discover new talents. Just like us, we started from scratch and I believe that football molded us to who we are today,” said Alazas.

The group is planning to cover entire Cebu.

The group is also planning to organize a tournament exclusive for the participants of the grassroots program to provide the children the much-needed exposure.
