Motorists told to brace for congestion, confusion
The Lapu-Lapu City Traffic Management System (CTMS) is asking motorists and commuters to be patient as they hold today a one-day dry run of a new traffic scheme.
“I urge the public to be more patient and cooperate with us. During the first hour of the implementation, there will definitely be chaos,” said CTMS head Frank Brazil yesterday.
The dry run will be held from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Under the new scheme, where all vehicles coming from Mandaue City using the first Mandaue-Mactan Bridge will not be allowed to go straight to Marigondon.
Brazil said he hoped the new scheme will ease congestion on M.L. Quezon National Highway, which connects the roads going to both Mactan bridges.
If the new scheme works, Brazil said they will start implementing it next week. If not, then they will not change the existing traffic routes.
He said signages will be placed in some areas while 40 CTMS personnel will be deployed to help manage the traffic.
“Magbutang gyud ta ug mga tawo sa mga critical areas especially intersections kay ang mga tawo mangutana gyud na. Importante pud nga naa tay signages (We will assign personnel in critical areas especially on intersections because people will definitely ask for directions),” he added.
Under the new scheme, all vehicles from the public market going to Mandaue, Mactan Economic Zone 1 and Mactan Cebu International Airport may pass through Sangi-Pajo road (one-way traffic), turn left to M. V. Patalinghug Ave. and to their destination.
Vehicles coming from Mandaue using the first bridge must turn right to M.L. Quezon National Highway, then turn left to Urbano Road, another left turn to Sangi-Pajo Road towards Sangi junction and to their destination.
Vehicles coming from Sangi, Sewage-Motumbo Road going to Lapu-Lapu public market and Basak may turn left to Sangi junction, proceed to Humay-humay junction and to their destination.
There will be one-way traffic in Sangi-Pajo Road going to M. V. Patalinghug Ave.
