The Highlands Corned Beef-University of Cebu (UC) Webmasters survived a tight contest down the stretch to eke out a 77-74 win over the Cebu Landmasters-University of San Carlos (USC) Warriors last night in the 8th Cesafi Partner’s Cup at the Cebu Coliseum.
The Webmasters lost an early eight-point fourth quarter lead but regrouped just in time to pull off the win and recover from a 72-87 loss to the My Led Opto-Cebu Institute of Technology-University (CIT-U) last Tuesday night. It was UC’s second win in three games.
UC broke a 54-all standoff at the start of the payoff period when Geleant Delator and Jhan Jabello nailed back-to-back three-pointers.
Fil Culango sank two straight jumpers that capped a 10-2 run that gave UC a 64-56 lead.
USC answered with its own mighty run, holding UC scoreless in four minutes while unloading 12 straight points to steal the lead, 68-64, with 3:26 left.
Justine Dacalos ended UC’s long drought with a triple then Delator completed a three-point play to give UC back the lead, 70-68.
Taking over for USC, Dolan Adlawan flexed his muscle in the paint, collaring two successive offensive rebounds before making a basket while being fouled.
Adlawan made the bonus free throw as USC found itself on top again, 71-70, with 2:39 to go.
Scoring big baskets of his own was Culango, whose four straight points pushed the Webmasters to a 74-71 lead with only 54.7 ticks left.
Adlawan made USC’s last field goal as UC sealed the win with crucial hits from the free throw line.
Delator paced the Webmasters with 26 points, Culango and Graciano Puerto chipped in 14 each, while Jabillo donated 10.
USC, which dropped to 1-2 (win-loss), was led by Jeffrey Carantu’s 16 markers.

In the main game, the unbeaten Worthy-University of the Visayas Green Lancers took sole possession of the leadership, pocketing a third straight win with a close 58-56 win over the Mighty Sports-University of San Jose-Recoletos Jaguars.
