RC Cola-Army is PSL beach volley champion
ON SHIFTING sands and gathering dusk Sunday, RC Cola-Army’s true grit and experience prevailed over all else.
Jovelyn Gonzaga and Nene Bautista shielded everything thrown at them by an eager tandem of Foton’s Cherry Rondina and Patty Orendain to crown themselves the queens of the 2016 Philippine SuperLiga Beach Volleyball Challenge.
Before a huge Sunday crowd at SM Mall of Asia Sands, Gonzaga and Bautista fought off sustained attacks by Rondina and Orendain to score a 21-18, 18-21, 15-13 triumph.
Gonzaga, who kept her unblemished stint in the beach competitions, slumped on the sands as Bautista dropped on her after their opponents fumbled a return at match point.
The Cebuana Rondina helped Foton to the finals after a tight 15-21, 21-13, 15-11 escape over Bernadeth Pons and Kyle Atienza of FEU-Petron in the semis.
RC Cola-Army escaped with a 16-21, 21-13, 16-14 win over Bang Pineda and Aiza Maizo of Petron XCS in their semis match. /inquirer.net with a report from Jonas Panerio
