ROSENDO Yamyamin and Percival Fiel were both named the best woodpushers for the month of May after last Sunday’s Cebu Executives and Professionals Chess Association (CEPCA) monthly tournament held at the Robinsons Galleria Cebu.

Despite placing third, Yamyamin was named as the month’s winning woodpusher for Group A after first-placer Rogelio Enriquez Jr. and Yves Fiel had earlier qualified for the grand finals slated in November.

Yamyamin finished with six points while both Enriquez and Fiel scored 7.5 points to place first and second, respectively.

Enriquez gathered a bigger tie-break score to emerge as the champion in the division.

Group A used a nine-round Swiss system format. A total of 37 competitors joined the tournament.

In group B, Percival Fiel dominated the five-round Swiss system tournament after scoring 4.5 points, the same output as CEPCA President Engr. Jerry Maratas.

Fiel gathered a bigger tie-break score to be proclaimed as champion.

Third-placer was Aireen Robillos while Manny Abucay placed fourth and Richard Ouano fifth. They all scored 4.0 points.

Meanwhile, Jojo Muralla and Peterson Sia were named the best players for the months of March and April, respectively, according to CEPCA officials.
