THE PAIR of Vanryl Latonio and Michael Taculad were among the winners in the 7th Gabriel Suico Age Group Badminton Summer Tournament held last weekend at the Metro Sports Center in Lahug.
Latonio and Taculad defeated the pair of Archu Suarez and Kenneth Añabieza to bag the men’s doubles Level E crown of the two-day badminton event organized by Cebu City Sports Commission coach Gabriel Suico.
Crystal Gabud and Mitzi Montalvo, meanwhile, pocketed the title in the women’s doubles Level F against the duo of Sayaki Tsuji and Kate Cadelina. Añabieza and James Flora triumphed over Mark Sieras and Jimmy Capin to win the men’s doubles Level F title.
Emerging champions in the highlight 19-and-above boys’ doubles was the tandem of Fritz Sagaad and Aljun Penute, who beat Southwestern University’s Aljo Patalinghug and Ryan Doromal. The Emily Judilla-Lucris Wabinga pair dominated the Mia Lyn Rizon-Anne Soon tandem to rule the distaff side.
“I am happy because there were a lot of entries this year and I hope it will double in the next edition.” Suico told Cebu Daily News.
Suico said the tournament aims to discover new talents from Cebu.
