THE PHILIPPINE girls U-14 squad settled for a silver medal in the recent Asian Football Confederation (AFC) U-14 Girls Regional Championships 2016 after losing to Thailand, 1-0, in Laos.

The Philippines was unbeaten prior to the finals as it opened its campaign with a dominating win over the host team Laos, 3-1. The Nationals then pulled off a 2-2 draw against Thailand and beat Cambodia, 1-0, before routing Myanmar, 5-1, in the semifinals.

The team is composed of Trinity Wambolt, Journey Winder, Gaby Colatos, Martina Torres, Cassandra Zalamea, Anya Fuentes, Maria Lazo, Alex Villalon, Alex Lagman, Carly Frilles, Marinell Cristobal, Arianna Lepage, Jessica Pido, Katelyn Alexander, Malina Hill, Keane Dedel and Shelten Cruces. Their coach is Joyce Landagan.

Four Cebuanas had a chance of being part of this team but only one made it in Rizame Ugbaniel of Mohon National High School of Talisay City. She, however, failed to get a passport. The other three Cebuanas who were eyed for the team were Trizza Musni, Nicole Badinas and Pinky Sotto.
