AS we write this on June 23, in the calendar are the following events:
Today (June 30) is the formal oathtaking of Governor Hilario Davide III and Vice Governor Agnes A. Magpale at 10 a.m., at the social hall of the Provincial Capitol. Earlier at 9 a.m., a Mass will be offered.
Tomorrow (July 1) is the culmination of Operation Smile 2016. In Cebu, it is under the aegis of the Mariquita Salimbangong Yeung Charitable Foundation. Mariquita will present citations of recognition this evening at the Villa Mariquita in Nivel Hills.
Also tomorrow at 5:30 p.m., the Shangri-La’s Mactan Resort & Spa presents an event collection at the Chapel Garden. This is a curated selection of the best of Shangri-La for creating unique meetings and events experiences. Dress code is white resort chic.
Tomorrow as well at 6 p.m., the Marco Polo Plaza Hotel holds “Delight Your Senses, a celebration of being timeless 10,” at the grand ballroom. Attire for the ladies is cocktail dress with a splash of color.
The Waterfront Cebu City Hotel and Casino presented its new General Manager Anders Hallden and the new Corporate Executive Chef Giovanni Sias to the press last Friday at La Gondola.
That was an occasion to announce the hotel’s celebration of the Independence Day of the USA. There’s an American food fest at the hotel’s UN restaurant up to July 10.
On Saturday (July 2) there’s an American festival at the Gourmet Walk from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., by which time there will be a concert at the Atlantic Hall.
On Sunday (July 3) at 2 p.m., there is a motorcade from the Lagoon Area, where at 4 p.m. there is a show of American bikes and cars during a barbecue party. At 8 p.m., it’s Formula One Grand Prix live at the lobby. Manny and Pie Calayan would open their beauty care clinic at SM Seaside City Cebu. They are both doctors and have made a name for themselves in Manila specially among the movie stars.
On July 4 at 7 p.m., is the “Blaze of Glory” fashion runway show at the Pacific ballroom, amid Harley Davidson and other American brands.
We had the opportunity to meet them and their daughter Bernice over lunch at La Taverna of the Casino Español de Cebu, arranged by Nelda Cabucos.
On Wednesday (July 6) at 3 p.m., the John Hardy Spring 2016 collection will be shown at an exclusive media preview, in Rustan’s department store at Ayala Center. This will be at the John Hardy boutique on the second level.
Just as I finished this piece, the door bell has rung. It is another invitation for tomorrow (July 1). There will be an exclusive viewing of the new Mercedes-Benz E-Class at the showroom on Nigel Hills. Cocktails begin at 6 p.m.
