FOUR candidates in Cebu province failed to submit their Statement of Election Contributions and Expenses (SOCE) when the extended deadline lapsed on Thursday.

As of 5 p.m., gubernatorial candidate Desiderio Estinozo and three others have yet to submit their SOCE.

The other candidates are Alberto Patalinghug (1st District) and Edgar Maestrado (5th District) who ran for the Provincial Board (PB) and Gilbert Wagas who ran for the 5th district seat.

Provincial Election Officer Lionel Marco Castillano said sanctions like fines and disqualification from seeking any other elective posts in the future will be imposed on the four candidates.

“From the 2010 and 2013 elections, the Comelec has been able to raise P20 million on fines from candidates due to failure to submit their SOCEs,” he said.

Castillano said four other candidates managed to beat the Thursday deadline for SOCE submission.

These are Roliveth “Klasmit Boyet” Cortes, an independent candidate for governor, Bernardo Desabelle and Bienvenido Gonzalez (3rd district PB), Boyet Bantilan (4th district PB) and Michael Nuñez (1st district representative).

Comelec first set the SOCE submission deadline on June 8. It was later moved to June 30.
