MANDAUE City Mayor Gabriel Luis Quisumbing has moved the implementation of the city’s plastic ban ordinance from yesterday (Monday) to this Saturday.
Quisumbing said the city is considering publishing the contents of the ordinance so Mandauehanons and the business sector would be fully aware of the 6-year-old ordinance, especially since there are still those who are not aware of it.
“The ordinance is very clear with its provisions. We will be publishing it, and we will post the contents of the ordinance in our official page,” he said.
Reina Mae Otarra of Barangay Pagsabungan said that she was hopeful that the city would impose the ordinance.
“Dugay na diay na nga ordinansa? Pero mura ra mag wala. Dili man sad siguro well informed ang Mandauehanons ana. Kuwang sa pagpatupad sa ordinansa. Mayta ila pangusgan gyud,” Otarra said.
Last week, Quisumbing met with the Mandaue and Filipino-Chinese Chamber of Commerce businessmen to discuss the implementation of the plastic ban ordinance.
Quisumbing said the businessmen supported the implementation of the ban.
Aside from meeting the businessmen, the mayor said he was planning to meet with wet and dry market vendors to explain the implementation of the plastic ban measure to them.
“For those people asking for a delay of implementation, Mother Nature gives no such quarter. Our waterways are clogged with garbage, plastics, and debris,” Quisumbing said.
An eco-warden would serve as the enforcement arm when it comes to the ordinance on solid waste management, said the mayor.
